PHOTO CONTEST

If you would like to enter our photograpy contest, print out the form below, fill it out and mail or bring it to Sarett Nature Center along with your entries and entry fees.

 

 

Rules & Information

 

1.   A $5 entry fee (adults), $2 entry fee (children 14 yrs and under) per photo must be paid to Sarett Nature Center.   Adult Contest entries and Junior Contest entries will be judged separately.

 

 2.   Photographs must be taken at Sarett Nature Center, the Brown Sanctuary, or Black’s Woods.   Payment must accompany entry.   There is no limit to the number of entries.

 

 3.   Black and White and Color prints will be judged together.

 

 4. Photo size must be 5 x 7 inches or larger for Adult Contest.

 

 5. Photo size must be 4 x 6 inches or larger for Junior Contest.

 

 6. All prints must be matted with white or black mat board (stop by the nature center to see an example).   Mat size must not exceed 16 x 22 inches.

 

 7.   A completed entry label must be taped to the back of each entry.   The photographers name or title must not appear on the front side.

 

 8. Sarett Nature Center reserves the right to refuse inappropriate or unsuitable entries.

 

 9.   Judging will be done by qualified persons not affiliated with Sarett Nature Center.

 

10.   First, second and third place will be awarded in each category, as well as a Best of Show.   Honorable Mentions will be awarded at the judges’ discretion.

 

11.   All entries become the property of Sarett Nature Center and may be used in promotions or exhibits, but may be returned to the entrant if requested.

 

12.   Winning photographs may be reproduced in Sarett Nature Center’s web page and other nature center publications with proper credit given to the photographer.

 

13.   Photographs will be judged on: Composition, General Appeal, Technical Merit and Appropriateness to Category .

 

14.   Sarett Nature Center will resolve all first place ties.

 

15.   Entry Deadline is December 2, 2007- 5:00 pm to: Sarett Nature Center, 2300 Benton Center Rd, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.

Adult Categories

 

PEOPLE EVENTS

People in the preserve, volunteers or families, or any event that the nature center sponsors.

 

PLANTS

Wildflowers, the prairie, shrubs, and trees.   Look for different ways to see the nature center.

 

WILDLIFE

From whitetail deer to mosquitoes.   What creatures can you catch on film?   And, what can you catch them doing?

 

LANDSCAPE/SCENERY

The trails, pond, field and forest all provide excellent photo opportunities throughout the year.

 

Junior Categories

 

ANIMALS

Frogs, bugs, birds, squirrels or spiders…what animals can you find to take pictures of?

 

TREES AND OTHER PLANTS

Wonderfully unique trees, vines, and leaves create great pictures along with spring and fall wildflowers.

 

LANDSCAPE/SCENERY

The trails, pond, field and forest all provide excellent photo opportunities throughout the year.

 

OTHER

For those pictures you just don’t know what to do with, the “Other” category fits perfectly!

 

 

Prizes & Awards

Ribbons will be awarded for the first, second & third place photographs in each category.   Best of Show for Adults receives $40 & $20 for 1 st place in each category.   Junior’s Best of Show receives $25 & $10 for 1 st place in each category.
