SKI WEEKEND GETAWAY
February 3-5, 2012

Get ready for some skiing fun! Sarett Nature Center has organized a cross-country ski trip for the Traverse City area. We’ll complete loop trails each day and afterward relax at the Sugar Beach Resort which overlooks scenic Grand Traverse Bay. Traverse City has many fine restaurants to choose from.

Friday……… Please arrive at the nature center by 7:45 a.m.   Lunch will be in Cadillac and then our first ski will be at Muncie Lake Pathway. This groomed trail system is located southeast of Traverse City in the Pere Marquette State Forest. The terrain would be best described as rolling with some flat areas. Time on the trail will be about 2 hours. After a short drive to the Sugar Beach Resort we will check in and then go to dinner.

Saturday…….  The Vasa Trail is located 5 minutes away from the resort. This morning we will ski some of the 25 miles of intensely groomed loop trails that take skiers through northern forest. There are some long climbs, but you are rewarded with long downhill runs. Otherwise there is mostly rolling terrain and some flat sections. Trails are well marked and benches are provided for the weary. After lunch in town we’ll do another ski at Lost Lake Pathway. This groomed, 6 mile system is rated as easy. It is located 12 miles away just north of Interlochen.

Sunday………… The 2,800 acreSand Lakes Quiet Area will be our destination after breakfast and checkout. Trails are not groomed, yet they have been a favorite of skiers for years. Gentle terrain allows for a greater appreciation of the forest in winter. There will be a lunch stop in downtown Cadillac on the way back. Some of you may want to try Hermann’s famous German café and delicatessen. We should arrive back at the nature center by 5:00 p.m.

Cost: $240.00 / person based on double occupancy. This includes round trip transportation from the nature center, 2 night’s stay at the Sugar Beach Resort, trail fees and 2 deluxe continental breakfasts.

Deposit: You must pay a $50.00 deposit to sign up for the trip. If sending a check please make it out to Sarett Nature Center and mail it to 2300 Benton Center Rd., Benton Harbor MI 49022.

Final Payment and Cancellation Policy: Final payment of $190.00 is due by January 20. You may cancel by February 1st and receive a full refund.

Equipment:  We can provide skis, poles and boots at no extra charge.
